Recreational Partners
The Rekai Centres have been working hard in the community to foster and build our recreational partnerships. As our mission statement states, we want to “Enrich the lives of our residents by transforming the model of long term care and ensuring they are part of the pulse of the downtown community.”
Our Recreational Partnerships assist us realizing this goal. To date, we work alongside:
MidToronto Community Services.
MidToronto Community Services works with seniors and adults facing a multitude of issues include Alzheimer’s, cancer, heart disease, HIV/AIDS. Clients of MidToronto come to The Rekai Centre at Wellesley Central Place each month to participate in “Super Bingo”. This provides an opportunity for the residents to mingle with individuals from the community and make new friends.
The Chang School of Continuing Education
Ryerson University
All that Jazz:
See and hear the giants of jazz with their virtuoso performance presenting music that will challenge the mind, body and soul. It is a survey course of jazz within its social and historical context, with music drawn from an extensive CD and DVD library. Conducted Thursday afternoons in the fall at The Rekai Centrs at Wellesley Central Place.
Staying Strong/Keeping fit
This course gives the understanding of the effects of physical activity on aging. The first hour was a lecture on the benefits of exercise on our minds and bodies as we age. The second hour was introduces various types of exercises, featuring cardio, balance, muscle condition and flexibility; done standing and seated, gentle on the joints but effective. A resistance is provided. Conducted Friday afternoons in the fall at The Rekai Centre at Wellesley Central Place.
