Situated on the site of the former Wellesley Hospital, the Rekai Centre at Wellesley Central Place opened its doors in 2005 and is home to 150 residents. The resident rooms all feature natural light, and are bright, clean and spacious. All bedrooms are private with either a private bathroom or a shared bathroom depending on the preference of the resident.
We have a 25 bed unit dedicated to residents living with Alzheimer who are at risk for wandering.
The home offers a private family dining room, a Wintergarden room with a piano, a chapel for non-denominational services and a large community room. In a rarity for a downtown home, the Rekai Centre at Wellesley Central Place offers a private backyard complete with two gazebos a vegetable garden and a BBQ. BBQs for the residents are a regular feature in the summer months. Always popular with our younger visitors is outdoor garden sports such as croquet, lawn bowling, mini putt etc. The Rekai Centre at Wellesley Central Place was the first long term care home to offer a green roof which is inhabited by honey bees. The honey produced by these bees, is served to our residents.
The Rekai Centre at Wellesley Central Place is home not only to senior citizens, but also to a growing number of individuals under the age of 65 who have survived traumatic injuries or illness but cannot return to their home.
The rates for The Rekai Centre at Sherbourne Place and The Rekai Centre at Wellesley Central Place are set annually by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. These rates are the same for all long term care homes in Ontario.
They are based on adjustments in the payment entitlement of Old Age Security (OAS), Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) and the Guaranteed Annual Income Supplement.
