The Rekai Centre at Sherbourne Place
The Rekai Centre at Sherbourne Place exudes warmth within the walls of this intimate 126 bed long term care home located directly across the road from Allen’s Garden. There are 5 private rooms with the remainder being a mix of semi-privates (2 persons to a room) and 4 person rooms. Sherbourne Place also provides 6 beds for residents requiring peritoneal dialysis care in collaboration with St. Michael’s Hospital.
The staff celebrate the culture and traditions of our residents with our Food Services Dept offering culturally appropriate foods where possible. For example, the Home provides Chinese food to the over 30% of our residents who are of Chinese background.
The Volunteer Board of Directors is committed to the rebuilding of the Rekai Centre of Sherbourne Place –now 28 years old. When Sherbourne Place first opened its doors in 1988, it was a state-of-the-art building. Today, it is considered a Class C building, with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care having committed the funding to rebuild it to today’s standards.
The Board and Senior Mgmt have been working diligently to secure a new site as the current location is too small to accommodate today’s standards allowing all residents to live in a private room with either a private or shared bathroom.
